5 Easy photography hacks ~ Cool photos you can take

I’m going to start off with an apology for not posting in 3 weeks, I’ve been working on a few posts and a bunch of ideas that I wanted to perfect before posting. I will definitely try to post more consistently, and feel free to leave me a request for a post in the comments section at the bottom of this article. I love to hear what you want to see next!

Also all photos are my own original work, and I work hard to take these so it would be appreciated if you don’t use these for non personal purposes without credit. If you do use my photos please link my website and contact me before hand and also do not copy and paste my content somewhere else, however you can leave a link to my blog.

This post will include tips for everyday photography and some cool photos to take. It will spark some imagination and creativity while taking photos of your own.

Photography Hacks

#1- Ombre filter

If your phone doesnt have a ombre filter as an option (like mine), don’t worry because this hack is a super easy way to diy an ombre filter. All you need is a clear ruler and markers!

I used ohuhu alcohol based markers, but a colored sharpie would work too, so you just color a little section with 2 colors and you don’t even have to blend them to make them look like an ombre on camera. You could also just use 1 color for a colored filter.

After you have colored your ruler you just hold it up to the front or back camera for a really awesome ombre look!

I came up with this Original hack when I was coloring a tiny piece of paper on top of a ruler, then I got some marker on the ruler. Then I thought the marker would wash off (it didn’t) so I colored on it some more. Then when I held it up, everything on the other side of the ruler was pink, so I thought it would make a really cool filter. And Voila the Ombre filter hack was born!

#2- Using the sun rays to your advantage

If you have blinds in your house then you would know that sometimes when the light peeks through it creates stripes, which can really ruin a photo of yourself. However, sometimes you can use the sun rays to your advantage as shown below.

It adds a really cool effect and all you need is a window with blinds and some sunlight. However, if you don’t have blinds then you can probably use a piece of cardboard and cuts some slits in it, to make the impression of blinds! This hack is simple, but I use it a lot.

#3- Strainer + light

You may have seen this hack before, but my friend (who took this photo) still wanted me to add it. It’s really quite simple, all you need is a strainer and some light.

My friend put a circle shaped LED light inside of the strainer, turned off the lights, and then shone it on a book. But, you could probably hold it up to the sun or a window and it would work as well. It makes a cool galaxy/sparkle effect (if you use an LED light) or crosshatch effect (if you use the sun), and it can be used in so many different ways!

The tiny circle light is the less powerful light and the one inside the strainer is the more powerful light!

She said that using a more powerful light gave it a disco ball effect, and a less powerful light made it look more starry. And it’s also about how close you hold it to whatever you are shining it on.

#4- Using your TV or laptop as a background for a photo

This hack is exactly what it sounds like, it’s literally using your TV or laptop screen as a background for a photo. For smaller things you would use your laptop, however for bigger things (like a person) you might wanna use your TV.

The background screen on this photo was a laptop. I used a piece of regular white copy paper to cover the keyboard’s keys. Also I wouldn’t put anything that’s heavy on the keyboard as it could damage the keys. However you could hold it in front of the screen.

I used a bokeh photo that I found on pixels.com, they have tons of really pretty, free photos. and if you go to their website and search up bokeh, you’ll find this exact photo and so many more.

#5-Silhouette or great lighting?

So are you looking for a way to get amazing silhouette photos or do you just want to know which way you should face when taking a good selfie? Well this final hack will help you out.

I don’t know how many times I’ve struggled with finding good lighting for a selfie. And now when I look back on that I see that all I had to do was face the sun. To get a photo with really good lighting that’s all you gotta do! Trust me, I use this one everyday!

Now if you want to take a silhouette photo, then your back should be towards the sun. For an even better silhouette photo cover the sun with your body, so that the sun rays shine out from your silhouette. These 2 hacks are small things you can do to make your photos look better.

NOTICE: However if you are taking a photo with the back camera, like the photos of the pinecones, you would do it in reverse. Meaning for a photo with good lighting your back would face the light, so that the light hits the object and if you want a silhouette photo you would face the light. After you try it out, it makes a lot more sense, so just take a few photos facing the light and taking a photo with your back to the light.

Thank you for reading this blogpost, and comment below if you want me to do another one of these posts, because I have a few more hacks and cute photos to recreate!
